Very Viable Alternative to Other Brands

I purchased this twin-size memory foam mattress for my son. This is the second bed I purchased from the SleepShop - the first being my Queen-size bed. To be honest my son's bed is more comfortable than mine! It has just the right amount of firmness and comfort. I had relatives visit for a few days and my mother slept on this bed. She is now in California wanting the link to this bed.



I've only had this bed for about 3 months so I cannot comment on the durability. I can comment on my Queen which I have had for about two years. The memory foam has torn in different spots but the blame rests primarily on us: we have moved three or four times in these two years alone (the Army is busy!) Fast Shipping--Super Comfy

I didnt have the shipping issues the other reviewer did--my bed arrived from fed-ex exactly on time and packed up perfectly. Maybe the only downside was i had to haul the mattress to my actual apartment as the fed-ex guy only got it as far as my elevator.



As for the bed itself super comfy. I wish they had made the full-size with the air-venting bottom foam cuz it does get a teensie bit warm but i sleep with my window open so its not a big deal for me. You cut open the vacuum plastic packaging and the thing unfolds and inflates itself. The smell took a few days to dissipate but it really wasnt horribly smelly to begin with.



Overall very satisfied with this purchase and at 399 shipping included really cannot be beat!More detail ...

Perfect

My old mattress was hard and lumpy. My back was killing me. Faced with disposing of the old mattress and replacing it with a pillow-top style for hundreds of dollars and hours of labor or buying a piece of foam to put on top for the fraction of the price I went this route.



The 1.5 inch thickness allowed me to tuck it under my fitted sheet. Although these foam toppers can be many times thicker I have never felt like it was bottoming out. This is the perfect thickness. As soon as I tried it out my eyes closed and I felt so relaxed. Unlike an ordinary mattress my weight is more evenly distributed. I don't feel pressure points and flat spots. My back felt better after only one night. As far as comparing memory foam to a pillow top mattress it's a tough call. Pillow top is a bit more firm.



Other foam products have received negative reviews for the odor. I suppose any new foam product will have a slight odor to it. This one had a "new car" type of smell to it and the manufacturer says it will dissipate in a few days - but I don't find it all that bad.



For the price this can be replaced every few years if it becomes stained or ripped.

Sleeping great

Was VERY dubious of buying a mattress online but alas this has been great



It did take almost a month for the smell to go away (but past reviews warned of this) and it took almost 3 weeks to "learn how to sleep on this" (hint: get rid of extra pillows) but it was worth it - I am sleeping extremely deeply and trips to the chiro have all but ceased



Compared to the exact same product for $1400-$1800 at local stores I'd buy it again in a second - The hardest thing was going from a queen sized mattress to a king!More detail ...

12" del king ther w/5" MF and Dual airflow

We ordered this mattress from Sleepshop and it came exactly on the day indicated in excellent condition. Remember you have to be there to sign for it. We were prepared to send it back without opening if there was any damage as this is the only way Sleepshop will replace it without additonal costs if there is a problem. Once it is decompressed and you want to send it back you have to pay the shipping (it weighs 98 lbs) and a 20% restocking fee!! It was fine so we took it in the house unwrapped it and let it regain its shape.



We have been sleeping on the bed for a month now and like it very much. Don't use a mattress pad as it makes it hard for the memory foam to heat up and conform to your shape. It took me about a week to get used to sleeping on the bed before it felt comfortable. The 12" w/ 5" of memory foam is considered a plush bed for side sleepers. The 10"/3" of MF is considered firm and for back sleepers keep this in mind when buying. If you want a firm bed don't get the 12". I got this information by calling Sleepshop. I found them a bit reticent to give me much information. In fact I felt like I had to pry it out of the person. They were not volunteerng anything that's for sure. Consequently read the warantee information and the refund information carefully.



The reason I am rating this mattress as a 4 instead of 5 stars is the smell. It has a very strong chemical smell. It's almost gone now but has taken a month and I have twice now stripped the bed sprayed it with Fabreeze and left it under a fan with the windows open to help dissapate the smell. I will probably need to do this one or two more times to get rid of the smell completely. So if you are sensative to such things don't get this mattress as it will probably bother you.



Also I paid $599 for it in Feb 07 and now I see it is listed at $750 here on Amazon. That's too much especially as you have to deal with the smell. Evidently they have sales so I'd wait for one.More detail ...

Not a pillowtop feel

I purchased this mattress and was hoping for a very soft almost pillow-like feel. After waiting for 1 1/2 days after opening for it to regain 11 inch height (it never did) I decided to go ahead and just try sleeping on it. It is definitely NOT a pillowtop. It looks like it but it is not soft. This is a VERY firm mattress. I wake up with very sore shoulders every day from sleeping on it. No experience with Tempurpedic but this is nice!

I read reviews for the same sleepshop mattress without the dual air flow. This one has two eggcrate pieces of foam to form the base. Not sure if it makes much difference but I heard the Tempurpedic design is similar and for 3 bucks more I figured what the heck. It has a mattress cover which can be unzipped and washed. I have never slept on a memory foam mattress but I must say that I like it alot. When you first lie down on the mattress it feels a bit firm but when the foam begins to conform that is when it feels great giving even support throughout your body. If you move a lot during sleep it takes getting used to the bumps caused by your former position until the foam comforms to your new position. There is a chemical smell but it needs some time to air out. I dont feel it is that noticeable unless I stick my face in the mattress. Shipping was good. It came by Fedex and I received a tracking number. Ordered it on 7/9 and received it on 7/14. I cannot imagine a tempurpedic being that much better especially with a 1500 dollar increase in price.More detail ...
